#selfpublishpoem2015 social media advertising

Besides posting my poems in my neighbourhood I also decided to post my poem on my Instagram as well as my tumblr ( follow me on Instagram for @lifeaszayde & follow me on Tumblr @pastelcollisions

Reactions and responses

Out of my 30-40 poems I had published I had only gotten one response on Instagram.  Although I had only gotten one response it still meant a lot to me.

Screaming

Her scream sounded like fingernails slowly dragging across a chalkboard
Like the sound of a water in a teapot boiling
Like two large metal poles clashing together
Like tires screeching upon the pavement
Like the siren of an ambulance approaching
Like a fork being scraped across an empty dinner plate
Like nails being dragged into flesh
An old rusty pot on the kitchen stove
Like two tall glass skyscrapers side by side
Like the scattered pieces of glass across the concrete floor
Like the loud crunch of a potato chips
Like lemon juice burning your throat
A large dose of vinegar being consumed
A shot of alcohol dissolving down your throat
Like the sharp end of a dagger
Like picking up shattered pieces of glass upon the kitchen floor
Like smashing large metal objects into window pains
Like the fresh metallic stench of blood
Like the smell of rusting metal on a fall evening
Like the bitter smell of raw lemons
An open wound on a cold winters day
The stinging sensation of hand sanitizer on a cut
Like my roommate screaming over a spider our room

The Shapeshifter

Love is an adorable firefly watching over me
It gives me a warm feeling inside
Creating small butterflies inside of me
Washing away all my worries and fears
Reminding me to smile and feel important in life

A moment later, love is monster
The gruesome monster injects its sharp teeth into my skin
Leaving deep wounds
Later, I see my own blood trickling down my skin

The blood running out of my wounds stains the plants around me
I watch as I stain the plants
And I see their frustration as they suffer from my blood
However I do not seem to be concerned

My mind is focused on what the firefly used to be before it left wounds on my skin
I see vivid flashbacks of me smiling like a delicate flower
The memories deepen my scars, allowing more blood to spill out
I continue to watch more plants around me slowly suffer

The wounds will never close
And the blood will still trickle down my skin
I watch as I hurt everything around me
And the wounds grow deeper into my skin
Reminding me that I can’t wash the blood off or erase the wounds I have

So this poem is about love and I decided to take a different approach on this idea because poets describe love as soft and gentle.  However, not a lot of people attach the idea of love to a monster
